Family beach vacations are my favorite kind of vacation. A week or two of complete relaxation is exactly what the family needs to refresh and recharge.

Family beach vacations are perfect for all ages, too. The tiniest babies love the fresh air, and with enough shade they are content to sit surfside for hours. Older preschoolers and toddlers love building sandcastles, and playing with toy pick up trucks. Elementary aged children enjoy finding sand dollars and unique shells and a little body surfing. For even older children family beach vacations offer a plethora of activities from beach volleyball, to catching some waves, to hanging out with new friends.

Parents, of course, can't relax during family beach vacations the way they did before kids. While the ocean is soothing it is also dangerous and watching all the little ones like a hawk is par for the course. Sneaking a little light reading during nap time is always a possibility. And working on the suntan is inevitable since you will be spending so many hours in the sun. But family beach vacations are often easier than sightseeing vacations. You can keep your own schedule and do a lot of hanging out.

But the success of family beach vacations ultimately depends on your choice of beach and beach resort. If you pick the right family beach resort then even the weather won't be able to put a damper on things. If you make sure that your beach resort has plenty to offer your family then even the rain won't ruin the fun.
