Disneys Vero Beach Resort is one location to consider when planning family beach vacations. This resort is part of the Disney Vacation Club and is located on the Atlantic Coast of Florida.

The rooms range from standard to studio, one, two, and three bedroom units. It is always nice to find something that can accomodate a large group of people. The larger units also have full kitchens which is great for preparing meals.

The best part is the service. The Mouse is known for catering to the customer. But the parks can get very expensive so this is a way for families to enjoy Disney vacations that are affordable but are not at the Magic Kingdom theme park. Read: no park admission tickets required! The pools are fabulous and the Florida sun is included!

Apparently there are board games to "rent" for free for bad weather days. And the advantage over a standard hotel is that a resort like this offers a lot of activities. Again - perfect for the days that the weather does not cooperate. The kids club is a wonderful option if mom and dad need a little break. And most children love the clubs so much that it is hard to get them to leave. Imagine that!

If there is availability then I think that the resort is open to the general public and not just Disney Vacation Club Members but you can make a quick call to the hotel to confirm that.

Just writing about the sun and sand makes me ready to leave this cold New England winter and head for warmer locations.

When people think about visiting Florida, they automatically think about Disney vacations.

In reality, Florida is an excellent destination for family beach vacations. After all, the state is surrounded on three sides by beaches and water.

Everyone has heard of the major port of calls in Florida - Miami, West Palm, Fort Lauderdale, Jacksonville, Daytona and the like. But in between these big cities are miles of smaller beaches that are much more suited to quiet getaways with the kids.

Consider places like Captiva Island and Sanibel Island on the Gulf Coast. The seashells found on these shores are amazing! The population is small and resorts are plentiful. A true escape from the hustle and bustle of daily life.

On the eastern side of the state, you will encounter the bigger cities but also family friendly places like Club Med in Port St. Lucie. This club is geared towards children and their parents. With kids clubs for all ages, mom and dad get a break and the kids have a blast.

To the south is are the famous Florida Keys, with their pristine waters and tropical climate. A little taste of the Carribean without ever leaving the country.

It is once again time to start thinking about those family beach vacations for August. Being from the east coast - I am partial to the Atlantic side of things. Being a creature of habit we tend to vacation in the same places year after year.

So to mix it up a bit this year, I have decided to brainstorm a list of possible spots (still on the east coast) that are perfect for family beach vacations. If you have a favorite to add to the list shoot me a comment!

So clearly family beach vacations in the Northeast are worth exploring since I don't know much about them. Up and down the coast there are thousands of vacation spots. Some people enjoy crowds and boardwalks. Others enjoy solitude.
With a family in tow it is important to find the right balance. You want the conveniences that a busy beach provides (restaurants, entertainment, etc.) but you want the relaxation of a quiet beach.
Finding a decent place to stay is also a challenge. Renting a home or a condo can be a leap of faith - you don't know what you really are going to get. On the other hand, a hotel ends up being very expensive and often does not have a basic kitchenette or enough space.

Family beach vacations are my favorite kind of vacation. A week or two of complete relaxation is exactly what the family needs to refresh and recharge.

Family beach vacations are perfect for all ages, too. The tiniest babies love the fresh air, and with enough shade they are content to sit surfside for hours. Older preschoolers and toddlers love building sandcastles, and playing with toy pick up trucks. Elementary aged children enjoy finding sand dollars and unique shells and a little body surfing. For even older children family beach vacations offer a plethora of activities from beach volleyball, to catching some waves, to hanging out with new friends.

Parents, of course, can't relax during family beach vacations the way they did before kids. While the ocean is soothing it is also dangerous and watching all the little ones like a hawk is par for the course. Sneaking a little light reading during nap time is always a possibility. And working on the suntan is inevitable since you will be spending so many hours in the sun. But family beach vacations are often easier than sightseeing vacations. You can keep your own schedule and do a lot of hanging out.

But the success of family beach vacations ultimately depends on your choice of beach and beach resort. If you pick the right family beach resort then even the weather won't be able to put a damper on things. If you make sure that your beach resort has plenty to offer your family then even the rain won't ruin the fun.

If you plan to vacation for a longer period of time, you will want to make sure that your beach resort has other amenities closeby. After all, too much beach can get boring.
